Britney Spears’ meds triggered mental health crisis

23rd April 2019

Note: This post has been moved from Latest Picks due to length of extended updates.

Having had a nigh-on month long stay at a mental health facility after her fathers near-death medical emergency (tmz.com) at the start of the month forcing her new Las Vegas show to be put on ice:

BRITNEY SPEARS: MEDS TRIGGERED MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS (tmz.com).

Britney Spears—“Oops I did it again!”

The stateside gossip town crier shouting that while under the stress of her fathers conditions doctors were adjusting her meds—a cocktail of medicines designed specifically for her—which had seemingly “lost their efficacy”.

We’re told there were problems. First, they had to wean Britney off the existing meds. This cannot be done quickly and there’s a risk of suicide if it’s not done right—it’s that serious.

As doctors weaned her off the meds, they created a new cocktail, but it’s all trial and error, and there were errors that made Britney unstable and ultimately unwilling to cooperate with doctors.

But having had a day pass on Sunday to spend time with her boyfriend doctors seemingly think they’ve now found “the right mixture of drugs”.

One other thing … there have been reports the conservatorship [her father having been her conservator for nearly a dozen years ever since her very public breakdown due to her uncontrolled bipolar disorder (today.com, Jan. 2008)] has forced meds on Britney against her will. Not true. The conservatorship Britney is under does not permit the conservator to force drugs on the person for whom the conservatorship was created.

And her father keen to deny reports he forced her into the mental health facility.

What’s more, we’re told Jamie is adamant—he did not want his daughter to go to the facility because he thought it would leak out to the media and he felt there were better ways of solving her problems. We’re told Britney is the one who said she wanted to go.

Here’s hoping things are back on track for her and her father as I’m sure comments sections will do.

Geriatric Sugar Man says: “I’m wishing her well still pullin’ it over those classic pictures too.”
Pompous Exotic Windbag says: “That’s taking the piss out of the mentally ill you sick geriatric cunt.”

But while celeb fans virtually ride one another over classic Britney in comment sections and those sort of chat rooms:

BRITNEY SPEARS: SPEAKS ON HER MENTAL HEALTH … I’m gonna be just fine!!! (tmz.com).

Britney Spears video message
Britney Spears just posted a video—the first time we’ve heard her speak since getting treatment for mental health issues—and she wants her fans to know she’ll be back in action soon.

Saying her family is going through some serious “stress and anxiety” in the short clip and with TMZ helping out with a another video of paps ambushing a Britney back to being all huge pokie nips in a white soon-to-see-spillage summer dress at a froyo joint in Santa Monica in an update.

And seemingly that “right mixture of drugs” is not quite right yet:

BRITNEY SPEARS LEAVING MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY … But meds still a problem (tmz.com).

Doctors were trying to find a new combo of meds, but they couldn’t get the mixture right and it was doing Britney more harm than good … to the point she stopped taking them.

Our sources say doctors still haven’t figured out the right formula and call it, “a work in progress.”

A “work in progress” which would certainly have me shitting a pharmaceutical brick fully aware of what some of the awful yet nonchalantly dismissed toxic side affects of such medication can be:

And with paps given the heads up that she could be leaving the mental health facility “as early as today but definitely by week’s end” so that they can stake out bushes and wheelie bins outside every milk shake and froyo shop she is likely to visit, although somewhat contradicting their report that she was actually released on Wednesday (tmz.com) when boyfriend, Sam Asghari, picked her up, a day after she was papped leaving the froyo shop. Nevertheless, staking out froyo shop when Brit Brit’s meds are off is still has potential to put money in the bank: How do the paparazzi make money? (quora.com).

BRITNEY SPEARS NOW PART OF ‘FREE BRITNEY’ MOVEMENT (tmz.com).

Said “movement” aiming to free her from her decade plus conservatorship which she appeared in court to challenge on Friday (rollingstone.com) resulting in her needing to undergo a mental health 730 competence examination.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ, Britney has done an about-face, now telling the judge her father, Jamie Spears, committed her to a mental health facility a month ago against her will and also forced her to take drugs. We’re also told Lynne Spears’ lawyer echoed the allegation.

Parents Jamie and Lynne seemingly having reconciled in 2010 after divorcing in 2002 but from the sound of things still not doing much gardening or sitting on the veranda together with Lynne seemingly supportive of the end of her daughters conservatorship.

Britney wants more freedom and asked the judge for certain adjustments … but didn’t get them. Sources tell us Britney would like to end the conservatorship, which has been operating for 11-plus years.

Hopefully we can assume the “more freedom” requested wasn’t just to be able to buy extra froyo and chicken wings.

In the wake of the criminal investigation initiated by her ex Kevin Federline who reported to cops that Brit’s father Jamie had a busted door and hands confrontation with her 13-year-old son Sean (tmz.com):

Britney Spears: Jamie Spears asks to step down as conservator … at least temporarily (tmz.com).

According to new legal docs obtained by TMZ, Jamie is asking “to temporarily relinquish the powers of conservatorship … due to personal health reasons.”

With him asking for a temporary conservator, Britney’s care manager Jodi Montgomery to take his place and Brit-Brit “very angry” over the incident (eonline.com) with worries it could challenge the current child custody arrangement with K-Fed granted a restraining order against Jamie.

Britney Spears’ father Jamie steps down as her conservator after alleged altercation with her son (people.com).

In court documents filed in Los Angeles and obtained on Monday, a judge approved the singer’s longtime “care-manager” Jodi Montgomery to temporarily take over and was granted the “same powers” previously granted to Jamie, 67.

But perhaps falling somewhat short of a full #FreeBritney with a source close to Britney saying: “Nothing will change in Britney’s life. Jamie will still get updates about Britney and Jamie will make sure that she is protected against people who want to take advantage of her. [Her mom] Lynne will also be around if Britney needs her.”

Updated 18th September 2019

Britney Spears’ father will not face charges over alleged abuse of grandson (eonline.com).

E! News has learned that the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office is not proceeding with the investigation. They announced on Tuesday, “After reviewing the evidence, there is insufficient proof that a criminal offense was committed by Mr. Spears.”

Updated 22nd August 2020

LA judge extends Britney Spears conservatorship until 2021 (billboard.com).

The hearing came two days after [Spears’ court appointed attorney, Samuel Ingham] filed a court paper on the singer’s behalf declaring that she does not want her father to serve as her conservator. In his motion to the court, filed on Aug. 17, Ingham said Spears’ needs and wishes have changed since the conservatorship was placed over her in 2008.

With Spears in a new phase with different needs and wishes and with no desire to perform, but for now its not #FreeBritney with the status que being kept with father Jamie remaining in control of her conservatorship.
