Google hit with €1.5bn fine from EU over advertising (bbc.co.uk).
Google has been hit with a €1.49bn (£1.28bn) fine from the EU for blocking rival online search advertisers.
It is the third EU fine for the search and advertising giant in two years.
Joining a litany of advertising and anti-competitive offenses leading to fines from the EU reminding that generally the first thing you see when joining up on any of the platforms Google owns is how you should be making for your blogging or vlogging with its AdSense program.
The case accuses Google of abusing its market dominance by restricting third-party rivals from displaying search ads between 2006 and 2016.
But with Google owner Alphabet making pre-tax profits of $30.7bn (£23bn) from advertising in 2018 the fines could be seen as merely an expense despite a Google spokesperson suggesting the company had made a “wide range of changes” to address the EU’s competition commission’s concerns (news.sky.com).
