Oculus Rift and “Teledildonics”. Is This The Future of Sex? (lukeisback.com).

“Pornography could be at the forefront of the growing virtual reality scene. Recently, DailyDot’s Rae Votta got to try out the new Oculus Rift virtual sex program…”

But it seems the technology has a long way to go to… to… yeah, I guess really depending on what you expect of it and what it is to replace.

“Votta was provided a demonstration of a virtual sex show, created by RedLightCenter, at a recent sex and technology conference in Los Angeles. According to RedLightCenter, the aim is to create a fully immersive X-rated experience on the Oculus Rift.”
Fully immersive X-rated experience on the Oculus Rift

Yep, not looking more than an hours tube ride from SecondLife, so I guess it’s the “fully immersive” that’s gonna make the difference or… “making pornography interactive?” I guess meaning somewhat more interacting than sharing some LQ porno pics picked off Google Images in a Chapopolis chatroom.

“Porn entrepreneurs aren’t satisfied just shoving you into a virtual bordello, they also want you to get involved in the action. [Brian Shuster, CEO of RedLightCenter,] believes the combination of his technology with interactive, internet connected sex toys is where the future is really heading.”

Crikey, I’ve seen some of those “fuck machines” in camgirl porn, some look like they have come straight of a power tools shelf at B&Q.

“Shuben’s device, the VSTROKER, attaches to a FleshLight and monitors the users movements, wirelessly transmitting them to the computer and then forwarding them to the ShockSpot possessing person on the other end of the screen—for a fee, of course. Shuben claims the product could help revitalize the now massive ‘sex cam’ industry.”
The VSTROKER

For sure, by allowing camgirls to give clients opportunity to twist the dial for token tips, sorta allowing lonely chaps to exercise their virility and them “mean machine on 4”. But to make things really reciprocal:

“That’s where Kiiroo comes in. These guys are a teledildonics … company which specializes in developing sex toys for couples in long-distance relationships.”

Certainly an option not included with the free Microsoft Sykpe.

“Their new dildo, the Pearl, can be connected wirelessly to a Fleshlight-like device called the Onyx. This contains 10 rings which expand and contract in accordance to the pressure applied to the Pearl. It’s kind of like a Nintendo Wii, if you replaced one of the Wii remotes with a massive plastic schlong.”

As you might—I don’t know. But…

“Of course, the real sexy achievement will be the combination of these teledildonics with virtual headsets like the Oculus Rift. Things are still very much in the prototype phase, but Shuster is convinced these meagre early successes will pave the way for a full virtualization of sex.”

However…

“Personally, I’m dubious, although I do think this kind of thing could become incredibly commonplace—and lucrative—in the future. Despite this, I think it will never quite get the exact experience right, since there are just too many subtle factors to take into account. After all, sex is a bit more than just clattering your nether-regions together, don’t you think?”

Indeed, but then again “cyber sex” has been going on online since the begining of the internet, and indeed, phone sex long before that, and as I assume what goes on in both will likely remain a staple of what goes on in conjunction with teledildonic “clattering your nether-regions together” or not.

Such ideas have surfaced before, as they invariable will with the “lucrative” multi-billion dollar industry that the adult one is, and indeed, unlike most teledildonics has found its role in making camshows more twist the virtual knob to give it to her on your smartphone “interactrive”.

But, if it is the intimacy of touch that you are actually looking for in a long distance dalliance that you are not spending your wages throwing tokens at, then I’d suspect cyber dalliance or indeed porn of any kind is not going to float the boat on which you raise your mast and, likely you will always be perhaps better off heading on over to plentyoffish.com or such, and likely getting as disappointed as most with what really goes on desperately trying to RT date if that is indeed what you are after.

For sure, porn and “cyber” have a role, but I’ve never thought of it or found it a replacement for the physical intimacy of real sex if that is what you are craving. As the author of the review suggests, some will always have greater expectations from what porn and sex toys aim to or can actually hope to deliver.
