The Moonlight/La La Land debacle (theguardian.com) wasn’t the only thing—besides Nicole Kidman mysteriously clapping like a viral seal* or perhaps protecting her expensive nails (avclub.com)—to send Twitter in supercilious anal orgasm:
Suicide Squad won an Oscar and Twitter is sputtering in disbelief (thewrap.com).
“‘Suicide Squad’ is now an Oscar-winning film after picking up Best Makeup at the 2017 Academy Awards, and Twitter is not especially thrilled. The DC Entertainment movie, directed by David Ayer, was ruthlessly panned by critics and many DC fans. One big reason for that: Its depiction of The Joker, played by Jared Leto. In fact, it was Leto’s makeup effects, which included a bunch of tattoos of words all over his face, that drew a lot of the criticism. (And memes. So many memes.)”
Indeed, I recall the vitriolic panning started long before it was released, as it did for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, suggesting perhaps both were determined to not fit in the one and true Dark Knight cannon and were destined by some to fail however it turned out, although some hardened Batman vigilantes have took a softer tone on it now, likely because the missus kinda liked it and after watching…. You know, I kinda liked Dawn of Justice too, which should obviously be having me living in fear of getting the death sentence bat brand.
Indeed, sports analogies invariably reached for when determined to make an argument more armchair real world without having to move out of it to see another’s opinion.

* Nicole Kidman explains her Oscars “robotic seal” clapping (dlisted.com).
“According to Nicole, it was the jewelry’s fault. … Asked if her weird-ass clapping was due to the fancy rings she was wearing … Nicole said … she was faced with the ultimate famous person-at-an-awards-show dilemma: either clap and risk returning her jewelry all scratched-up, or not clap and look rude.”
