Horror legend Wes Craven dies of brain cancer (businessinsider.com).
“Legendary horror writer/director Wes Craven has died of brain cancer at the age of 76, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Craven is best known for creating the iconic Freddy Krueger character in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise as well as the ‘ghostface killer’ in the "Scream" films. The following is a statement from Wes Craven’s family, via The Wrap:
“‘It is with deep sadness we inform you that Wes Craven passed away at 1PM on Sunday, August 30 after battling brain cancer. He was 76 years old. Craven was surrounded by love, in the presence of his family at his Los Angeles home.’”

But some recall Wes did not just slosh with horror…
Remembering ’70s Golden Age porn director/editor Wes Craven (avn.com).
“Mainstream film director Wes Craven … may have been best known for his horror franchises like Scream and Nightmare On Elm Street, but he was also one of the filmmakers who helped build the ’70s ‘Golden Age’ of adult film with two landmark films, Together and It Happened in Hollywood, as well as several that he himself directed, including Angela The Fireworks Woman. Together was a 1971 sex-education style film, a standard tactic used to present hardcore footage without arousing the ire of the easily outraged. Together featured a young Marilyn Chambers (billed under her real name, Marilyn Briggs) who was prominently featured in the film’s posters and promotional material. … In an interview, Craven told Ashley West of The Rialto Report that he had ‘edited ‘tens’ of XXX films in the early to mid-’70s.’”
Being the age porn had aspirations of becoming mainstream itself. Although many would like to deny it, I guess in reality it truly is in the pseudo-anonymous digital privacy of today showing that it surely only was social mores that ever stop it being officially proclaimed so.
