Latest Picks is a sort of mini-blog for daily thoughts and picks. Longer articles, stories & sketches are found in the full-size blog, where indeed Latest Picks are moved when updates to a story make it too large.

Note: Both Latest Picks and Blog are to be retired at the end of September, although both will remain available indefinitely as an archived part of the site. No further updates to past stories will be made.

Snoop Dogg accused of transphobia after calling Caitlyn Jenner a “science project” in meme praising Akon on Instragram (dailymail.co.uk).

Snoop Dogg’s shout out to Akon

“The hip hop artist posted a Meme of fellow rapper Akon which highlighted his charitable work in Africa but also labelled Jenner a ‘science project.’

“‘Shout out to Akon! He is about to supply 600 million africans with solar power. Im really upset that this isn’t major news but that science project bruce jenner is #Society,’ posted Snoop on Instagram.”

With likely some maintaining it a “misunderstanding” and others insisting we all too should concentrate on digesting “real news”, preferably not about shooting cops, while they hit play on that GoogleTube Eminem greatest hits collection, while Akon meanwhile, who owns a diamond mine in South Africa and denied for a time—until “real news” caught up with him—the existence of blood diamonds, continued donating mining profits to local communities while defending polygamy as “the reason why God put multiple women on this earth” (hellobeautiful.com, Nov. 2012) who presumably like diamonds.

For sure, some saw that the level of attention garnered—much in the same way as a graffiti artist took offence to Kardashian parking (Latest Picks 9th April 2015)—could be as much to blame for the “insensitivity”:

“‘How long were you in the news for a stupid f***ing name change?’ one person commented in reference to the artist briefly changing his stage name to Snoop Lion. ‘But when someone else changes up their identity suddenly its not worth it. Not buying another song of yours EVER.’”

Although probably not losing much sleep over losing a single fan who alone helped little put him in the position that he and Akon are in today to do all that helping of others. Snoop wasn’t the first to court the attention with attention:

His momma named him Bruce
“The rapper isn’t the first person to be blasted for his insensitive reaction to Caitlyn Jenner. Superstar music producer Timbaland posted a Meme on Facebook on Monday which adapted a famous line from the Eddie Murphy movie Coming To America. ‘His momma named him Bruce. Imma name him Bruce,’ it read.”

Or rather “Imma call him Bruce” it read, thus undoubtedly confirming that young Timothy Zachery Mosley’s momma was yelling “Timbaland, your dinner’s ready” to get his attention long before he adopted his stage name and some were quick again to point out that all the fuss was more about getting some yourself than anything else:

“‘His opinions are as dated as his music and should stay in the early 90s when he used to be popular,’ wrote one person.”
Connor Cruise
Connor Cruise—“back to business”

Sensing opportunity, they came from a lot further out, Tom Cruise’s galactic son Connor tweeting—and then quickly deleting— a rant against the star receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards, likely because it somehow exposed Scientology secrets of the Galactic Confederacy dictator Xenu.

“‘Really?? Winning the AA award for courage?? Ashton is gonna come out and yell PUNK’D,’ Connor tweeted on Wednesday. ‘Don’t get me wrong. Do what you feel like doing and don’t let anyone stop you. But everyone is taking this way too seriously.’”

But clarified his opinion after backlash stating that:

“Totally twisting what I said, if you read what I said I totally support being happy and am glad she is happy. We just need to as a nation and a world get back to business and making everything a better place.”

But while getting “back to business” with reactive mind removing Dianetics (Wikipedia) avoiding that ESPY, who’s beat is athletic achievement and sport and those involved in or who have contributed to it, may still feel the 65-year-old Olympic gold medallist deserves the award—and they the attention from giving it—despite it being for personal rather than competitive or world-saving achievement.
