Latest Picks is a sort of mini-blog for daily thoughts and picks. Longer articles, stories & sketches are found in the full-size blog, where indeed Latest Picks are moved when updates to a story make it too large.
Note: Both Latest Picks and Blog are to be retired at the end of September, although both will remain available indefinitely as an archived part of the site. No further updates to past stories will be made.

“Prime Minister” of self-proclaimed pro-Russian Donetsk People’s Republic says his former Security guard job “was boring” (telegraph.co.uk).
“There followed stints in advertising and a period at a regional confectionary and baked products distribution firm, before he got involved with MMM, the company behind a notorious pyramid scheme that deprived thousands of Russian investors of up to $10 million in the early 1990s (he denies any wrong doing).”
Crikey! He thinks he may have a friend in UKIP’s Nigel “make mine a little English ale, Mr. Putin” Farage too: “Help us, Obi-Wan Nigel Farage, you’re our only hope!” (dailymail.co.uk).
“We are appealing not just to fellow Russians, but to the people of Britain,” said Mr Pushilin.
I guess no one sent him the UKIP manifesto.
Still, anti-Russian Ukraine fares no better with its candidates: Darth Vader, Dr. Ironfist, the Chocolate King or the Gas Princess—take your pick, Ukraine (Pick of the Week, 8th April).
